UN Secretary General's Chief of Staff, Mark
Malloch Brown, delivered a lecture at event co-sponsored by
the Campaign for a UN Democracy Caucus
On October 6th, 2005, Secretary General
Annan's Chief of Staff, Mark Malloch Brown, delivered a lecture
in New York on UN promotion of Democracy and Human Rights.
Mr. Malloch Brown, who held the position of Administrator
of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) during
the last six years, analyzed how the reforms stated by the
Outcome Document of the UN World Summit will foster the work
of the United Nations in the fields of Human Rights and Democracy.
The event was co-sponsored by the Campaign for a UN Democracy
Caucus, together with the Foreign Policy Association and the
National Endowment for Democracy.

DCP Co-Hosts a Panel Discussion on UN Democracy
Caucus at 61st Human Rights Commission
On March 31, 2005, the Democracy Coalition
Project, Transnational Radical Party and Feedom House co-hosted
a panel discussion titled "The
UN Democracy Caucus: Its Role in Promoting and Protecting
Human Rights. Representatives from both civil society
and Community of Democracies governments spoke to a crowd
of over 150 people on the important role the UN Democracy
Caucus can play in the Human Rights Commission.

DCP Co-Hosts A Roundtable Discussion At The
2004
Human Rights Commission
On March 29, 2004 the Democracy Coalition Project,
Freedom House and the Transnational Radical Party organized
a roundtable discussion entitled “Human Rights and Democracy:
Building Common Purpose Among the UN’s Democracies.”

 World Movement for Democracy Third Assembly:
Building Democracy
for Peace, Development and Human Rights.
On February 1–4, The
World Movement for Democracy held its Third
Assembly. At the Assembly, participants explored how to
expand and strengthen democracy in their countries and in
their regions of the world; how to strengthen civic groups,
political parties and the media; how to increase accountability
of political institutions; and how to use civic education
and culture as a means of promoting democratic values.

 International Civil Society Forum on Democracy,
Good Governance and
Civil Society
On September 8–9, 2003 Mongolia hosted
a civil society forum to examine the inter-dependent relations
between the promotion of democracy, culture of peace, fundamental
human rights, and good governance on one hand and attainment
of security, development and elimination of poverty on the
other. There were over 200 hundred participants from 68 countries
attending the meetings.

Fifth International Conference for New or
Restored Democracies
In collaboration with the Government of Mongolia
and United Nations Development Programme, International Conference
for New and Restored Democracies-5 took place in Ulaanbaatar,
Mongolia September 10–12, 2003. The Conference theme
was “Democracy, Good Governance and Civil Society.”
Approximately 109 governments sent representatives ranging
from Foreign Ministers to local Ambassadors, as well as senior
figures from the UN, EU and other multilateral institutions.
Experts prepared 15 background and synthesis papers on various
democracy-related topics, some of which were presented in
the discussions.
